The familiar story features the rivalry between the Roman priest Brutus and the oppressed Jewish merchant, Prince Ezra. Brutus sentences Ezra's son to death and Ezra in turn kidnaps and raises Brutus' only daughter, Decia. When the daughter, renamed Hannah, grows up, the Roman Prince Marcus falls in love with her. To court her, he disguises his Roman identity. When his religion is discovered, he is ejected from Ezra's house. Marcus then agrees to marry Princess Octavia as arranged, but Hannah denounces him in open court and he is sentenced to death by his own father, the emperor.

Keshav, an alcoholic, swears off alcohol after his father's death. He loves Kamala, whose father gets him a job and fixes a marriage date. But, the marriage is cancelled when he starts drinking again.

Keshav lives a poor lifestyle in a small town in India along with his ailing father, Dinanath, mother, and a much younger sister, Munni. He is an alcoholic but after the passing of his father promises to abstain completely, much to the relief of his mother as well as his sweetheart, Kamala, as well as her businessman dad, Laxmidas, who arranges his employment at his Coal Mine, and arranges for them to get married on 20Feb1958. On February 16 Laxmidas cancels the marriage as Keshav relapses and his mother threatens to leave the town, and even Kamala refuses to speak with him. Shortly thereafter Laxmidas, on his deathbed, gets Kamala to promise to marry some one else, while Keshav, blacklisted by the entire community is well on his way to self-destruction as well as endangering lives of hundreds of coal mine workers.

Raja lives a wealthy lifestyle with his somewhat upper Caste Hindu, eccentric, woman-hating dad, Hazurdas, and mom. He is friendly with Kishore, and both are aspiring doctors. On their way to college, they meet with two young women, Rani Mehra and Kamini. Both young men fall in love with them, with Raja taking the first initiative and getting married to Kamini, even though she of a lower untouchable Caste, but decides not to tell his parents. When he does inform them, they want him to divorce Kamini and get married to a girl of their choice, Raja refuses and returns back to Kamini, only to find her in the arms of her childhood friend, Sunder. Angered and hurt at this betrayal, he decides to marry the girl his parents have chosen for him - and he is due for another surprise - as the girl he is about to wed is none other than Kamini`s friend, Rani. Watch what happens when a liberated, tom-boyish Rani finds out that Raja is already married, and the impact this has on everyone concerned.

Anuradha Mehta lives a poor lifestyle in a small town in Southern India with her widowed father. She would like to study in the city but is unable to travel alone. When Vimal Raj, their neighbor, offers to travel with her, her father permits her to do. While Vimal goes to look for employment, he leaves her with his prospective employer, who sexually molests her after drugging her cold-drink. When this news reaches her father, he kills himself, and a shocked Anuradha blames Vimal for her predicament. Alone, she is unable to fend for herself, and becomes a prostitute in a brothel.
